PRACTICE AND METHODS
Congregations will want to employ sound stewardship methods and practices in planning and conducting stewardship programs. It is essential, however, that these practices be coupled with intentional efforts in the areas of formation, leadership, worship integration, etc. in order to strengthen the culture of generosity.
1. Mission Clarity: review and adjust the congregation's purpose statement at least every three years.
2. Narrative budget: develop a narrative case statement that tells the congregations's story and connects dollar amounts with the congregations's impact in changing and saving lives.
3. Annual giving programs: ask congregational participants to make estimates of their annual giving at least annually.
4. Multiple opportunities for financial generosity: ensure people can give in many ways throughout the year (e.g., regular offering, Simply Giving, special offerings, planned giving).
5. Say "Thank You": send givers thank-you letters with quarterly and annual reports.
6. Capital Campaigns: provide unique giving opportunities supporting financial needs beyond the scope of regular giving.
7. Fund Raising practices fundamentally betray the culture of giving that marks the faith practice of disciples.
